Financial Controller

A newly created role in an ambitious and growing SME business based in Leeds City Centre. Due to our continuous growth we are now looking to strengthen our finance function by bringing in a permanent Financial Controller to take on full responsibility for our Finance Team, reporting directly into the Managing Director. This is a real opportunity to be the number one in Finance in a successful and growing privately owned company.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Monthly management accounts reporting, including improving and strengthening month end data and KPIs
  • Budgeting, monthly forecasting and cash flow forecasting
  • Producing annual statutory accounts and managing all aspects of the audit
  • Full responsibility for financial control, review of month end balance sheet and reconciliations
  • Process improvement in cash management and month end reporting
  • Managing relationships with key stakeholders, including auditors, banks and key business partners
  • Working closely with and business partnering the sales and operations teams to ensure finance is a part of key business decisions and strategy
  • Managing the 7 strong finance team

As well as the key responsibilities above, we are looking for a commercially minded controller who can lead on strategic projects, including:

  • Cost control, working with operations teams to drive cost improvements and improve bottom line profit
  • Analysing profitability and performance to enable agile decision making
  • Working with the new business team to improve pricing and tender submissions to increase profitability
  • Automating manual finance processes and integrating with the finance system

This is an interesting and varied role, which provides the opportunity for someone to get involved in all aspects of running a finance function, with exposure to the Board and the chance to really drive and improve the business. The company currently utilises a part-time interim Finance Director who will help embed and support the successful candidate in the short-term.

The company are looking for a qualified accountant with experience in industry, ideally within an SME. Key attributes are:

  • Organised and efficient, able to run multiple processes and projects
